San Francisco Diaper Free Collective

was first created as a Facebook group in April 2017 by Jenn Chu. She was committed to raising awareness about Elimination Communication, not just as a fabulous parenting tool to connect with their littles, but also as a meaningful step in lessening our impact on the environment.

Since then it has grown to include additional coaches, EC workshops, potty training classes as well as personal coaching sessions. Starting in 2020 (to be completed in 2021), Go Diaper Free online support groups migrated from Facebook to Mighty Networks.

Today, SF Diaper Free Collective is here to serve as the Bay Area’s premiere go-to resource for your family's potty learning journey.

Not sure where to start? We offer a variety of classes and support options, covering everything from Elimination Communication starting as early as birth, to non-coercive potty learning for toddlers. Join one of our upcoming Monthly Support Calls to connect with fellow parents and learn from others' experiences while getting your questions answered.

Don’t see what you’re looking for? Send us a message and one of our Certified Coaches will be happy to help.

We know that families are all defined differently, which is why SF Diaper Free Collective is an inclusive community, where we honor and respect ALL walks of life, wherever they are on their journey. We hope to see you at our next support group!

Jenn Chu (she/her)

Certified Go Diaper Free Coach

Jenn Chu is a cisgender American, a parent, acupuncturist, and midwife apprentice.  Her passion is in holistic health, with an emphasis in fertility, pediatrics, antepartum and postpartum wellness.

Jenn started Elimination Communication (EC) with her two month old when she learned that babies are born with an ‘innate need to communicate’ before they eliminate.  After lacking support, Jenn envisioned a community where people could access diaper-free resources and support within the Bay Area.  Jenn then founded San Francisco Diaper Free Collective in 2017, and went on to become a Certified Go Diaper Free Coach.

Jenn is also the Social Media Moderator for Go Diaper Free, as well as an instructor offering workshops for the community. She believes that the EC philosophy can fit into anyone’s lifestyle.

Amanda Scharpf (she/her)

Certified Go Diaper Free Coach

Amanda is a white/cisgender postpartum doula as well as a ‘diaper free’ consultant. She found her way to supporting families after her own birth/postpartum experience and discovery of Elimination Communication.

Her passion is to let other families know there is an option other than solely diapers and to help them integrate EC and pottying practices into their unique family/lifestyle. She understands that the shifts that come with the expansion of your family can often be overwhelming, time consuming and exhausting. Practicing elimination communication should not add to that stress. She aims to support families in leaning into the parts of elimination communication that work for them, allow them to establish a deeper connection with their child and ultimately bring more ease to the family, and empower the parents and child with a smoother and earlier than normal transition from diapers.

Rachel Espino

Certified Go Diaper Free Coach

My daughter first communicated with me when she was just a couple of weeks old. After she had woken from her nap, the expression on her face told me she needed to pee. I brought her to the sink, and just like that- she released! It was so intuitive for her. I was skeptical at first, but when it happened, I started to believe in the possibilities. Without a doubt, we were communicating with each other (and rather effortlessly at that). From then on, I was hooked on the diaper free, elimination communication program.

Our journey so far has been fun, natural, and very fulfilling. Most importantly, I love engaging with my loved one. The process encourages me to be mindful and present, and to enjoy these fleeting moments with her as they do fly with the blink of an eye. I soon realized it was me that wasn't ready, but my baby had all the signs she was ready to be diaper free.

Our Commitment

While we are first and foremost an EC and potty learning resource, we recognize our obligation as teachers, parents, and community members to uphold certain standards and ideals. As such, the San Francisco Diaper Free Collective does NOT tolerate racism, anti-semitism, homophobia, transphobia, or bigotry of any kind. Our community, whether on video calls, on social media, or in-person classes, aims to be a safe place for persons who identify as BIPOC or LGBTQI+, as well as persons of ALL religious or cultural identities.

As white identifying women teaching a philosophy rooted in traditional indigenous and non-white cultural practices, we are committed to assisting BIPOC and traditionally marginalized voices. As such, in addition to advertising our own classes and services, we have a directory on this website for anyone in the Bay Area who teaches Potty Learning and/or Elimination communication, and to any teachers who identify as BIPOC. It is our belief that all families deserve access to culturally congruent care and we hope to use this website to make that just a little bit easier.

At the moment our directory is limited to the Greater Bay Area, but with technology making remote learning ever more popular, we may consider including teachers from other locations as well.

If you or someone you know would like to be included in this directory, please contact us here.
